Happy Monday, Out readers!
It's almost the end of May, and that means it's time to build your summer reading list!
Don't worry, we've got your back and are back with a list of 44 brand new LGBTQ+ books for you to read! This list includes novels, YA books, memoirs, and short story collections about all kinds of queer people and queer stories.
If you're looking for a fun YA novel, look no further than Jonathan Van Ness's first novel, Let Them Stare! Let Them Stare, cowitten with Julie Murphy, is about a nonbinary teenager named Sully who feels like they need to lveave their small town in order to find a queer community. However, when they find a rare vintage bag at the local thrift store, they also meet its ghostly former owner.
This ghost, a fabulous spirit named Rufus, helps Sully find community as Sully helps Rufus solve the mystery of his death.
“I come from a really small town in Illinois, and I always thought growing up that I had to get out of that town, that I had to find a place that was more accepting of me and that me staying home felt like not an option,” Van Ness says in an exclusive interview withOut. “And I think the older I get and the more people and young people I’ve met, that’s not an option for everyone, and not everyone can get out of their hometown.”
If you're more interested in a photography book to add to your collection, check out Queer Lens: A History of Photography, which is set to come out June 24!
Or maybe you're looking for a fun book to read to your kids? Good news, because Chasten Buttigieg spoke toThe Advocate about his new children's book, Papa's Coming Home!
