Hello Out readers, I'm currently in the snowy mountains of Utah at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival, where I'll be reviewing some of the buzziest and best queer movies of the fest! Sundance always has plenty of great queer films, and as this is the festival's last year in Park City, Utah, before it moves to Boulder, Colorado, this is an extra special year.
The first two films I've reviewed are Gregg Araki's kinky and kooky sex comedy, I Want Your Sex, and Charli XCX's mockumentary, The Moment.
While one of those movies meets the moment and feels freshly relevant, the other, unfortunately, misses the mark.
I Want Your Sex is Araki's first film in 12 years, and I am happy to say, the legendary queer director is back! Cooper Hoffman stars as Elliot, a fresh-faced 23-year-old who finds himself not only working as the assistant to a beautiful, brilliant, and brash artist (Olivia Wilde), but also becomes her sexual muse and sub.
The film serves as an open letter to Gen Z about loosening up and not being afraid of sex, and it works on every level.
Unfortunately, Charli XCX's The Moment does not.
The film, directed by Aiden Zamiri, who directed the "360" and "Guess" music videos for Charli, is a mockumentary featuring a fictionalized version of the singer as her label pushes her to make a commercialized version of a brat concert tour film.
While the movie matches the hypepop in-your-face attitude of the album, it never reaches the creative heights brat did, and ends up feeling more like a gas station energy pill than a coke-fueled party.
In more movie news, as the Academy Awards get closer, we've announced the Out picks for the 2026 Oscars. Our list includes actors like River Gallo in Ponyboi, Tonatiuh in Kiss of the Spider Woman, Tessa Thompson in Hedda, and Kelly Marie Tran in The Wedding Banquet. Read our story to see the rest of our picks!
