Hello Out readers!
Is Ricky Gervais still funny and relevant in 2026? English comedian Gervais was once known as one of the most provocative comedians in the business, but has he fallen behind the times?
Of course, Gervais has his history of offensive jokes, including anti-trans jokes, like making fun of Caitlyn Jenner's transition and saying he's going to undergo "species realignment" because he's "always identified as a chimp" in 2018.
In his 2022 special Special Nature, he brought up trans women again, saying he loves the "new women" who have "beards and cocks." He said he supports trans rights, "but meet me halfway, ladies. Lose the cock. That's all I'm saying."
Now, he's been asked about his anti-trans jokes on BBC's This Cultural Life, and if his unwillingness to change makes him behind the times.
"That's probably true, but that's because I think I'm right," Gervais answered. "I have a right to talk about those things. And there are jokes I certainly stand by. I can't look back and say, 'Oh, sorry about that, I said that when I was only 50."
It seems Gervais has taken the Dave Chappelle route of deciding to see trans people as an easy joke instead of real people. While they're busy yelling about how things are changing, why don't you watch one of these hilarious queer stand-up specials instead?
