A select group of queens have managed to capitalize on their RuPaul’s Drag Race fame and became digital influencers with millions of followers on Instagram.
The drag universe is more mainstream than ever, and a lot of that growth comes from the queens featured on Drag Race. Right now, several drag performers have incredibly large social media followings that sometimes surpass cast members from mainstream reality shows like The Bachelor, Love Is Blind, The Real Housewives, and Love Island, to name a few. While it is true that Drag Race winners tend to get a lot of appreciation from fans, there are just as many popular queens on social media who didn’t necessarily have a high placement on the show and still became viral sensations.
Here are the top 10 most followed Drag Race queens on Instagram!
Sasha Velour’s rose petal reveal at the Drag Race season nine finale was a legitimate “cultural reset” that changed the series as we knew it. Since winning the show, Velour has amassed a large following on Instagram. Currently, the season nine winner has 1.7 million followers on the social network.
Despite also having 1.8 million followers on Instagram, Alaska has a slightly larger following than Velour. The All Stars 2 winner has been hard at work recently releasing a new memoir, promoting singles from the Red 4 Filth album, touring the world, producing the Drag Queen of the Year pageant, and co-hosting the Race Chaser podcast.
Alyssa Edwards may have been a “lovely fifth alternate” in the competition, but she’s one of the most popular RuPaul’s Drag Race queens of all time. As of this writing, Edwards has 1.9 million followers on her Instagram page. Following her one-woman show in the West End, Alyssa: Memoirs of a Queen, Edwards is now promoting her upcoming Life, Love & Lashes Tour, which has dates across the entire country.
Sickening entertainer, makeup guru, and highly-successful entrepreneur Kim Chi is among the most popular Drag Race queens on social media. Chi’s Instagram has reached 1.9 million followers, and the queen is closer than ever to crossing the two-million mark. Meanwhile, her makeup brand KimChi Chic is being sold at CVS stores – a history-making achievement.
Plastique Tiara placed eighth on Drag Race season 11, but she has only grown in popularity after the show. With 2 million followers on Instagram, Tiara is undoubtedly one of the most popular queens in the history of this franchise. In 2021, she collaborated with KimChi Chic to launch an entire makeup collection. In the meantime, Tiara has been traveling around the globe with the Werq The World tour and also headlined the RuPaul’s Drag Race Live residency in Las Vegas.
The queen also has a jaw-dropping 9 million followers on TikTok, which has certainly helped boost her Instagram following. On TikTok, Tiara has become famous for her gender-bending videos where she transforms from a handsome man to a gorgeous woman.
Certain fans questioned Violet Chachki’s crowning on Drag Race season seven, but she’s gone on to prove that Mama Ru made the right decision. Chachki has reached 2 million followers on Instagram and is the fifth most-followed Drag Race queen on the social network. From attending the Met Gala to launching the No Gorge videocast with Gottmik, Chachki’s long career as an entertainer speaks for itself.
Adore Delano is one of the ultimate Drag Race fan-favorites, and her 2.1 followers on Instagram definitely prove that she’s still an A-list drag performer. Over the years, the season six alum has released multiple albums and singles, performed at major events, and traveled the world to promote her original music. Delano has also expanded her brand and evolved her drag aesthetic while always staying true to herself.
After winning the title of Miss Congeniality in season seven and being a runner-up on All Stars 2, Katya’s career has truly skyrocketed. As a result of a lot of hard work, Katya currently has 2.5 million followers on her Instagram, which makes her the third most-followed Drag Race queen on the social network. From hosting TV shows to podcasting to touring to writing books to releasing original music, Katya’s following keeps on growing.
Bianca Del Rio was the most-followed Drag Race alum for many years, but she currently ranks in second place. On Instagram, Del Rio has a whopping 2.5 million followers, which is incredibly impressive for a queen from season six who never got to come back and compete on All Stars. All things considered, it’s admirable to see how Del Rio has sustained her career as an entertainer over so many years.
At the moment, Trixie Mattel is the most-followed Drag Race queen on Instagram. Mattel has amassed 3 million followers on the social network as a result of running Trixie Cosmetics, touring the world, being a judge on Queen of the Universe, running a popular YouTube channel, opening up Trixie Motel, and collaborating with Katya on so many projects. Overall, Mattel is the first-ever Drag Race contestant to reach 3 million followers in the history of the franchise.
