RuPaul Charles on Drag Race

Then, the queens take it to the ball.

* RuPaul's Drag Race season 12 has disqualified competitor Sherry Pie for misconduct of a sexual nature, but the queen is still featured in episodic footage.

After three episodes, RuPaul's Drag Race is back and sharing a teaser for this week's edition. The series has dropped the "first act" of each episode of the season 12 premiere so far, but they aren't done. In this week's footage, the queens take it to the ballroom communityin the show's recurring ball challenge. Oh, and RuPaul Charles twerks.

After the queens return to the Werk Room -- you know, following Dahlia Sin storming off of the mainstage with no cutes-y, memorable one liner -- the reality of the competition began to sit in. But they don't have much time to relax before Mama Ru calls them in for the next mini-challenge: the Beehive Jive. The queens must get into quick drag, mocking up bee-inspired outfits, and then essentially have a dance off.

It's ... interesting, to say the least.

Queens we've already known were truly performers like Heidi N. Closet, Widow Von'Du, and Jaida Essence Hall all stand out. Ru ends up giving it the win to Gigi Goode and does a little dancing of his own. Goode picks up $2,500.

This week's maxi-challenge is the show's Fashion Ball, inspired by the ballroom community. Fun fact: RuPaul actually has very little connection to the ballroom scene. In a recent NPR interview he was asked if he ever became a part of the community. "Not really," he said. This was the same interview where he seems to admit to allowing fracking on his ranch. "I went to balls. But, you know, the kids at the ballroom were from a different - they weren't the children of Warhol. They weren't the David Bowie kids. They were kids who were shut out with society and wanted to emulate what society was doing - right? - or what high society was doing. We were the kids who were making fun of high society in a knowing - in a conscious way, if that makes sense."

We're just going to leave that right there.

On Drag Race, this week's ball the queens have to show three looks: Lady Baller, Basketball Wife Realness, and Balls to the Wall Eleganza. The last category is a design challenge. We can't wait to see how this turns out.
