Elliot Tuttle's feature debut, Blue Film, starring Kieron Moore (Aaron Eagle) and Reed Birney (Hank Grant), is officially coming to theaters in May 2026. The movie, which was long considered too "controversial" to play in film festivals like Sundance and SXSW, has been acquired by a new distribution company named Obscured Releasing.
"I'm thrilled to be partnering with Obscured Releasing on our theatrical rollout of Blue Film," Tuttle told Variety in an exclusive announcement. "Their passion and commitment to a long life for our film made this an easy choice."
The filmmaker added, "A lot of people were scared, but Obscured wasn't."
Blue Film tells the story of a camboy and sex worker named Aaron Eagle (played by Kieron Moore) who meets up with an older client named Hank Grant (played by Reed Birney). As the story plays out, audiences discover that there's much more going on between the two.

Obscured Releasing
Obscured Releasing, a new distribution company that acquired the rights to Blue Film, was founded by Hollywood veterans RJ Millard and Bill Guentzler.
"What Elliot accomplishes in telling the story of how two men's sexuality and their connection shaped their futures is simultaneously humane and shocking," Millard and Guentzler wrote in a statement also shared with Variety. "He is asking questions no American filmmaker has dared to ask in decades, and we're thrilled to be launching Blue Film in theaters."
Out has interviewed Blue Film's writer-director Elliot Tuttle, as well as lead actor Kieron Moore, in late 2025.
