"Menage a trois, murder, drug addiction, and HIV barely scratch the surface on the intense themes explored in Elite, Netflix's latest sleeper hit," writes Bruno Solari. "The Spanish soap opera, one of the streaming service's first, bears unexpected nostalgia for those of us who found it hard to come to terms with our own sexuality. I began watching this show expecting your typical young adult high school drama, but little did I know there would be so many steamy gay storylines that left me sweating. Think: Gossip Girl crossed over with Big Little Lies. This sexy, binge-worthy series follows the lives of three, low-income students who receive a scholarship to La Encina, a top preparatory school attended by Spain's elite."
Dean Cain recently came under fire for speaking at an event held by the Family Research Council, classified a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center. Although he defended himself, saying he supports gay rights and is pro-choice, he seemed to bash those groups during his speech.
Fellow '90s TV star Tom Arnold took aim at Cain via Twitter. A social media feud sparked between the two of them when Arnold called Cain "anti-LGBTQ & racist." Cain responded, calling Arnold a "cowardly, slanderous weasel." The fight culminated recently backstage at Larry King's studio.
Since the show premiered in 2011, we've enjoyed watching Cameron Monaghan's journey as the gay middle child, Ian Gallagher unfold on Showtime's Shameless. But the actor has just announced via an Instagram post that he will be exiting the show, with the next episode being his last.
The spooky season bestows many gifts upon us, and today is no different. At San Francisco drag show MOTHER, drag queen Florida Man used the show's Ariana Grande tribute night as an opportunity to perform an instantly-iconic number as Lady Voldemort. She Who Must Not Be Named does a striptease to "Dangerous Woman" before dueling with a sexy, shirtless Harry Potter.
Spoiler alert: they make out.
In a new interview with the Sunday Times, Rose McGowan gave her thoughts on the current state of Hollywood in the wake of #MeToo. The actress "swears she will never act again" so she can remain critical of the industry, not that she's too broken up about it: "I just think they're douchebags."
Megan Mullally wasn't very happy with whoever was operating the official Will & Grace Twitter account last Saturday, the same day Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed to the Supreme Court.
After the Will & Grace Twitter account tweeted a GIF of Jack McFarland falling, Mullally, who plays Karen Walker on the hit NBC sitcom, responded: "maybe take a moment of silence today for the lgbtqqia community, people of color, and women instead of posting pratfalls."
Chelsea Handler has always skirted the line between irreverent humor and being actually, you know, offensive. Handler has long been criticized for the way she talks about race, gender and sexuality and it seems that she isn't stopping anytime soon.
In an utterly pure foot-in-mouth moment, Handler tweeted out a stunningly bad parallel between Lindsay Graham and National Coming Out Day. Read the comment here.

I would say we're partners."

On Tuesday, New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio signed a bill adding a third gender option for birth certificates issued in New York City. The Bill will give gender non-conforming and non-binary individuals the option of being marked as gender X. "A letter from a physician or an affidavit by a licensed health care provider will no longer be provided," reports CBS New York. "Residents can now submit their own affidavit requesting a change in gender identity."
Lyft driver Shawn Pepas Lettman had an eventful weekend after one of his passengers decided to make a scene after his request to play music was declined.
"I came out of a gay club and your driver is racist against gay people," the passenger said, on the phone with Lyft customer support while saying he felt threatened by the unmoving driver. As Lettman, who lives in Brooklyn, records the event, the passenger insists that he's being racially targeted for not "being black", that he's going to sue the pickup car service, and that he wants the $8.01 back he was charged for the partial ride from Lettman.

James Whiteside wants to be wicked. It's a descriptor that might surprise fans of the dancer, who has often played the role of the vapid prince in productions at New York's American Ballet Theater. It's no shock that the company's Principal Dancer falls easily into these characters, of course. His tall, muscular body and angular face would blend effortlessly into the cast of any Disney fairy tale, but he's saying goodbye to being Mr. Nice Guy.
In the movie 1985, a 20-something gay New Yorker named Adrian (Cory Michael Smith) travels home to Fort Worth for Christmas to visit his mother (Virginia Madsen), his father (Michael Chiklis), and his younger brother (Aidan Langford). All of them are part of the local church community and none of them know the truth about Adrian's life in the city. Shot entirely in black and white, Tan's film is a requiem for the AIDS crisis, as Adrian's story isn't just about a man hiding his queerness, but a man hiding his illness. Through carefully placed clues, we gather that, tragically, this may well be the last time Adrian sees his family. And that's just part of 1985's overall quietness, which also allows room for its characters -- and subtle period details -- to organically take shape.
The East Coast reached peak geekdom when the 2018 edition of New York Comic Con took over the Javits center on Manhattan's west side. "The photo-making process for me is really about the connection it allows with those I photograph," photogrpaher Joey Sbarro tells us. "Being behind the camera gives me an access point to a space where we can relate to each other on a more honest level. When someone sits for my camera, what I'm interested in is having a real moment with them, a conversation."
