National Coming Out Day Inspires Facebook Feature

Users can now mark their coming out.

This National Coming Out Day, LGBTQ people are celebrating the day they embraced their true selves. For many, it's a day to remember for years to come.

In honor of National Coming Out Day, Facebook is helping users mark that special day. The social network has added "Came Out" as part of their "Major Life Event" feature. It will appear on their profile in the same way as birthdays and anniversaries.

"For the LGBTQ community, Facebook is a way for you to come out, celebrate your pride, and find support," Tudor Havriliuc, a vice president at Facebook, told NBC News. "Visibility is so important because it changes hearts and minds about being LGBTQ when friends and family see us living our true lives."

You can add your coming out to your Facebook from the "Life Events" tab on your timeline.
