Mac of All Trades: Finding Inspiration with Mr. Daily Mister

Mac

Musician, fashion blogger, and digital strategist MacArthur Joseph shares both wardrobe and musical inspiration that keeps him fresh every day.

Mac is a Brooklyn based digital strategist who also runs a men's style blog, Daily Mister, and DJs on the side. We chatted with him about where he finds his inspiration, how he incorporates his muses into his work, and what it means to have hands in a bit of everything.

Q: When you walk around the city and notice new trends, styles, and fashions, do you ever approach people to ask them about their style?
A: Sometimes. I mostly make mental notes on different things I see during my day to day. Some of the fun is doing the research myself.

Q: What fashion trend/s are you into the most right now?
A: I've been big fan of streetwear the last few years and now I'm really into mixing in tailored pieces into my wardrobe as well as playing with proportions. Oversized outerwear and wide legged trousers are some personal favorites.

Q: Which designers spike your interest and why? What is it about their clothes?
A: I'm a huge fan of Thom Brown because he manages to constantly add newness to the brand while still maintaining it's signature aesthetic. I really love designers who are outspoken and push for their own niche like Raf Simons and Kerby Jean-Raymond of Pyer Moss.

Q: If you had to wear the same outfit for a week straight, what would it be? What is your go-to clothing combination?
A: You would think it be hard to pick but I'd say black skinny jeans, oversized shirts, a hat, and solid colored sneakers. My go to combo usually includes an oversized top, cropped jeans or pants, some sort of hat and sneakers.

Q: When you go thrifting, what do you look for?
A: I usually go into a thrift store with a game plan so I don't end up with a bag full of clothes I don't need. Before heading to the register I make sure the piece fits right, makes sense for my closet, and doesn't look like I could've gotten it at a fast fashion shop.

Q: As a DJ, How do you decide whether a song is worthy or not?
A: I very much try to read the room as much as possible. I always want to make sure everyone is having a great time even if that means switching up the tracks and pace of what I originally had planned.

Q: How do you find the time to pursue your passions and work full-time?
A: It's not easy, and sometimes my other pursuits have had to take a backseat, but I find it a lot easier to get everything done because they are all things that I'm passionate about and bring me joy. It's super important to sometimes take a step back and consider if what you're doing is actually fulfilling or you're just doing something because you feel you have to.

Q: How does hip hop inspire your everyday life and style?
A: Hip hop has pretty much influenced everything in my life from the way I dress, to the way I speak, and the references I make. To me it's always been more than a musician style and you can see the way it's shaped pop culture in the last 20+ years.

Q: If you had to settle on one artistic medium, which would it be?
A: I'd say writing. It's something that I've always loved and is a strength that has got me to where I currently am.
