Watch Dad Teach Trans Man to Shave in Powerful New Gillette Ad

transgender man shaves with father in new gillette ad.

“I’m at the point in my manhood where I’m actually happy.”

Gillette released a new ad over the weekend that features a trans man shaving with his dad.

In the spot, the man -- whom CTV identifies as Toronto-based artist Samson Bonkeabantu Brown -- describes his process of coming into his manhood and what his transition meant for family and friends.

"I went into my transition just wanting to be happy," Brown says. "I'm at the point in my manhood where I'm actually happy. It's not just myself who's transitioning -- it's everyone around me transitioning."

The ad then shows Brown shaving his face and neck while his dad rooting him on.

"I shot this ad for Gillette and wanted to include my father, who has been one of my greatest supporters throughout my transition, encouraging me to be confident and live authentically as my best self," Brown said in a Facebook post, per The Root. " I'm keenly aware of how blessed I am to be able to exist in this world being supported by my family in ways that all too often many of my trans brother, sisters, and siblings who exist outside the binary are not always as fortunate."

Gillette isn't the only razor company to produce a trans-inclusive ad campaign this Pride season. Harry's released their campaign earlier this month, and it featuresAmateur author Thomas Page McBee, artist Alok Vaid-Menon, RuPaul's Drag Race alum Shea Coulee, and Out deputy editor Fran Tirado.

"I am confident that this ad will encourage many of my trans siblings and fill them with the knowledge that our existence in this world can be filled with the love and support we deserve," Brown continued. "Be good to yourselves. Love yourselves. And know that when you greet the world with love, it can and will love you back, often in the places you least expect."
