Well here's something for you to noodle over. TickPick (a site where fans can buy, sell, and bid on tickets) released a study where they polled over 1,000 Americans about their preferred music and stances on major party efforts. The goal was to identify the parallels between music preferences and politics.
On their site they say, "If many of America's most visible artists have utilized their platforms to express political opinions, do fans also divide along these ideological lines? Does musical taste correlate with certain political perspectives, or is the way we select genres and artists unrelated to our beliefs?"
As you'll see here, the TickPick team polled people based on their taste as it pertains to topics like gun control and marriage equality. In regards to the latter, the results they found on the correlation between artist preferences and same-sex marriage were both expected and surprising.
According to TickPick, "Alternative, blues, and classic rock listeners were all overwhelmingly aligned with marriage equality, with more than three-quarters of these genres' fans stating same-sex marriage should be legally recognized. Opposition to this sentiment was greatest among country fans, which may relate to this genre's emphasis on Christian verbiage and themes."
What's interesting is that Kanye West's fans were the most supportive of marriage equality. Furthermore, Celine Dion fans were among the most likely to be opponents of same-sex marriage. This is highly fascinating given her support for the LGBTQ community. (We love you, Celine!)
