Chrishell Stause's fight with costar Bre Tiesi over transphobic comments, explained

In several Instagram stories posted last week, Selling Sunset star Stause has called out her castmate Bre Tiesi for both promoting a company called MAGA Bracelets, and for allegedly using the outdated and incorrect term "transvestite" when talking about Stause's nonbinary partner, G Flip.

Stause first called out Tiesi for a social media post her team made promoting a company called MAGA Bracelets.
"Some people are GREAT for tv, but when it comes to talking about our real issues (using slurs etc) they tend to be cut. So use this as a guideline when you watch season 9," Stause wrote in an Instagram story over a picture of Tiesi's post.

Tiesi did apologize for the post, saying it was a mistake and "I am far from MAGA" and "I cannot apologize enough for the oversight here."
Influencer Jennifer Stano also posted a video to her stories defending Tiesi, saying that Tiesi was sent an evil eye bracelet made by Coco Verses' company Lavara Verse, and that the package also included a notecard from Verses' other company, MAGA Bracelets, which describes itself as selling "patriotic conservative jewelry."

Stause shared an image of a People story from April 2024 where three former employees were suing Tiesi for "emotional distress, loss of earnings, and loss of employment benefits, among other things." The plaintiffs allege that they were "harassed, discriminated against, and/or retaliated against on the basis of their sex, gender, and/or sexual orientation."
Tiesi has denied all allegations of wrongdoing in the suit.
Stause wrote in her Instagram Stories that "finding out how she referred to my partner will not make the show, but no this is not just a political thing to those saying that."
She continued, saying that they "had to tip toe around the real issues while filming" because of the aforementioned lawsuit.

Stause then shared an Instagram story where she posted the definition of "Transvestite," which says that it is "an outdated and often considered offensive term for someone who dresses in clothing traditionally associated with the opposite gender."
"Not my job to teach her that this term is EXTREMELY outdated, but here's a free eduction," she continued, referring to the 'transvestite' definition. "And if my partner WAS trans, they are not, I would happily love them exactly the same. GTFOH Someone take my phone."
G Flip is a nonbinary Australian singer who started dating Stause after she broke up with Jason Oppenheim in 2022.
While nonbinary identities are part of the trans umbrella, some nonbinary people do not identify as trans.
This is far from the first time Stause has fervently defended her partner on the show.
Stause previously butted heads with Marie-Lou Nurk, who was dating her ex, Jason Oppenheim, at the time, when she misgendered G Flip in an episode of Selling Sunset in 2023.
After Nurk referred to G Flip with "she/her" pronouns, Stause corrected her, saying, "Okay, my partner is nonbinary, they use they/them pronouns, this is a simple thing."
She also confronted castmate Nicole Young at the Selling Sunset season 7 reunion about a time when she responded positively to an Instagram comment that said, "I was hoping the lesbian chick was off in Australia this season and not on our screens."
"First of all, say whatever you want about me, I'm a tough bitch," Stause said. "But don't go after my partner. Ever. Listen, I will own it. I've been a bitch to you. I hate you. I own it… If you're gonna literally go to homophobic people and cheer them on because they hate me for that reason, that is hate, Nicole."
Netflix hasn't officially announced that Selling Sunset will be returning for a ninth season, but Stause and several other stars have confirmed that they filmed the new season.
