Truce will help people solve varying conflicts across different relationships in their lives.
No matter how idyllic a relationship may seem, none are without conflict. Lovers, siblings, parents, children: There is potential for them to disagree about numerous things on numerous levels. Angel Haze is partnering with Catfish's Nev Schulman and MTV to help people resolve their problems before they do irreparable damage to some of the most important relationships in their lives on Truce.
Haze, who has worked with Schulman previously on Catfish, said that it was easy to make the tangential shift, especially after she and Schulman spent time together outside of the show. "The first episode is not only very crucial to the American society, but to LGBT kids and people like who are agednered," Haze said, "it's about a girl who comes out to a family who isn't accepting."
Conflicts like that hit especially close to home for Haze, who grew up in a similar situation where she wasn't accepted for who she was. "As a kid who came to identify as pansexual and being so young and knowing you're not quite normal, then having to watch someone else go through that. I was happy I could help," she said.
Haze was wary at first of becoming too attached to the conflict. "I went in not knowing how much of an asset I could ben -- making an actual difference is amazing, and you see that play out in the show," she said. "You'll see a lot of what these kids have to go through in these situations." Not making it about yourself is the key, she said, you can empathize and identify and help based off your experiences, but don't make it too personal. "You spend so much time thinking about your shit anyway, it's easier solving someone else's problems."
The first episode of Truce will air on MTV tonight at 11 pm ET/PT after the episode of Catfish that Haze also cohosted. Watch a clip below:
