The transgender widow of a Texas fireman goes back to court to win rights to benefits
Earlier this year we profiled Nikki Araguz, the transgendered widow of a Houston-area firefighter who is appealing the state's decision that her marriage was invalid because she was born a man. According to a Texas news outlet, Araguz appeared in court yesterday to appeal the decision (once again).
As the report states: "A judge recently ruled Nikki Araguz's marriage to Captain Thomas Araguz was not valid because she was born a man, making her ineligible to receive $600,000 in her husband's death benefits."
While the case is likely to continue to drag on, Araguz also remains a focus of fascination, who is not averse to the spotlight. Read "Nikki Araguz vs. The State" and tell us what you think.
