Well, this year, we got a lot more angels. When people in the public eye come out as trans it also gives other people who might be questioning or exploring their gender permission to try things out, and hope that they can also become their true self.
Thanks to these celebs who came out as trans or nonbinary this year, we've got a lot of inspiration to go around.
Superstar singer and actor Demi Lovato came out as nonbinary this year, changing their pronouns to they/them. "I feel that this best represents the fluidity I feel in my gender expression and allows me to feel most authentic and true to the person I both know I am and still am discovering."
The Crown star came out as queer this year, and also updated her pronouns, saying they use both she and they. The 25-year-old Golden Globe winner also shared that sometimes they wear binders, which are compression garments often worn by trans and nonbinary people to alleviate chest dysphoria.
Good had first come out as genderfluid during her season on RuPaul's Drag Race, and this year, came out as a trans and nonbinary person who uses she/her pronouns. She also announced that she is on hormone replacement therapy and got facial feminization surgery.
The Japanese singer, famous around the world for their theme songs for Kingdom Hearts, came out as nonbinary, saying they prefer the prefix "Mys." to Ms. or Mr.
Australian actor Hugh Sheridan came out as nonbinary, saying that they don't really like labels, saying, "I chose zero labels for no other reason except the exclusion, limitations, separation, I believe are all one, deeeeep down."
RuPaul's Drag Race season 6 alum Laganja Estranja opened up about being a trans woman and said she's never been happier. "I'm able to come off stage and take my makeup off and still see a beautiful woman in the mirror. It's powerful," she said.
Dance Moms alum Lennon Torres shared that she's transitioning and uses she/they pronouns. "Life update: I'm transitioning! That means I'm transgender if you didn't know," she said in a TikTok. "My pronouns are they/she which means that they or she are totally fine, and I'm just hopping on here to tell you that I'm going to be posting more on TikTok and I'm excited about it and I don't know why I'm doing all these awkward moves because I'm rusty!"
Pedro Pascal's sister, who is also an actor, came out as trans and was immediately met with support from her brother, who posted a picture of her on the cover of Chilean magazine Revista Ya with the caption "my sister, my heart, our Lux."
The Feel Good star came out as nonbinary and bisexual in April, and then worked their gender identity and coming out story into the second season of their Netflix show.
Designer and member of the Getty family Nats Getty came out as trans and nonbinary, revealing that they got top surgery. Their partner, Gigi Gorgeous, is a trans woman.
Champion middle-distance runner Nikki Hitlz announced they are nonbinary on Trans Day of Visibility this year. "The best way I can explain my gender is as fluid," they said. "Sometimes I wake up feeling like a powerful queen and other days I wake up feeling as if I'm just a guy being a dude, and other times I identify outside of the gender binary entirely."
