Hello Out readers!
I have to ask, when did we as a society bring back 1990's homophobia?
It's only Wednesday, and already, at Out.com we've published three stories of straight men having to defend their straightness because people accuse them of being gay for doing things like dancing, hugging another man, or kissing a long time friend on the cheek.
If we go back to last week, we can also add stories about former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson feeling frustrated that he still has to address rumors about him and bandmate Harry Styles, and a trend on TikTok where women called their boyfriends gay for wearing vintage levi's, carrying a tote bag, having a mustache, and having lots of random tattoos. I feel like I'm in third grade again!!!
I have been dealing with this type of ignorance and homophobia since I was a little boy who's favorite color was purple, and now that I'm almost 40, I really thought we'd be past all of it. But alas, here we are.
But one way we can fight this kind of ignorance is to point it out, and you can be sure that Out.com will continue to do that.
Let's see what else is happening in queer pop culture.

Woman Crush Wednesday
Our Woman Crush Wednesday is The People's Joker star, director, and co-writer Vera Drew! Drew recently made history as the first ever transgender the Joker! In The People's Joker, Drew turned her own story of realizing she's trans and coming out into a Joker and Harley Quinn origin story set in a wild and wacky version of Gotham City. The film is currently playing in theaters and you should be on the lookout for an interview with Drew later this week!

Inspirational Quote
"I need you to hear this: You are still you, Simon/ You are still the same son who I love to tease and who your father depends on for just about everything. And you're the same brother who always compliments his sister on her food, even when it sucks. You get to exhale now, Simon. You get to be more you than you have been in... in a very long time. You deserve everything you want."
Today is the great Jennifer Garner's birthday, so we want to celebrate her brilliant response to her son coming out in Love, Simon. The scene where Simon's mom tells him she still loves him and he's still the same person is one of the most beautiful scenes in any queer movie.
