In the wake of her son's brutal, homophobic murder, Judy Shepard has commemorated his life, turning him into a legacy through the Matthew Shepard Foundation. She, alongside her husband Dennis, have fought against homophobia and inspired (as well as mentored) a generation of LGBTQ+ activists. But more than a legacy, Matthew was her son.
