It’s Wednesday, and that means it's time for another Out Newsletter!
We’re halfway through our first full week of doing this newsletter, and we’ve got so much going on we can barely keep our heads straight!
This week, the Out Team went to the Love Lies Bleeding premiere, is prepping for the Oscars this weekend, and working hard to make sure we cover all the best queer culture stories.
I’m getting excited for spring TV! Abbott Elementary is already back (does anyone else have a crush on Sabrina Wu’s substitute teacher character Cassidy Geoffrey??), new shows like Ripley, Mary & George, and X-Men ‘97 have us excited, and some of our favorite shows, including Hacks, The Boys, Invincible, and Interview with the Vampire are coming back with new seasons! What shows are you most looking forward to this spring?
We’re also deeply excited for the start of the National Women’s Soccer League season. My fiancee and I just became season ticket holders for Angel City Football Club!
So, what can you expect from Wednesday newsletters? We’ll have the regular links and stories, plus our pick for our Woman Crush Wednesday, a trip through Out history, and an inspirational quote from a pop culture figure we can’t get enough of this week.
Let’s hop right in!

Woman Crush Wednesday
Our inaugural Woman Crush Wednesday goes to Love Lies Bleeding star Katy O’Brian! You may recognize her from her role in The Mandalorian, but in Love Lies Bleeding, out this Friday in theaters, she really gets to shine in her first lead role.
She plays a queer bodybuilder who forms a relationship with a gym manager played by Kristen Stewart, and let me tell you, their chemistry is off the charts! O’Brian looks amazing with her muscles and 80’s spandex, and she’s about to become every queer girl’s crush.
This Month in Out History
In March of 1998, Out Magazine featured lesbian comedian and actor Lea DeLaria on the cover in a famous pose where she wears a tuxedo jacket and is holding one of her breasts.
In 1998, DeLaria appeared in the film Edge of Seventeen, where she played Angie, the owner of a gay disco. On the cover, Out called DeLaria “Hollywood’s Latest Lesbian Love Interest.”
In 2022, Out recreated the cover with Hayley Kiyoko doing DeLaria’s iconic pose.
Inspirational Quote
“To anybody who has ever questioned your identity – ever, ever, ever, ever – or you find yourself living in the gray spaces, I promise you this: There is indeed a place for us.” - the amazing Ariana DeBose said this during her acceptance speech for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for playing Anita in West Side Story. She was the first Afro-Latina and first out queer woman of color to win an acting Oscar.
"Angela Bassett did the thing; Viola Davis my Woman King; Blanchett, Cate, you're a genius; Jamie Lee, you are all of us!" - DeBose gave us this brilliant quote and performance in her wrongly critcized freestyle rap at the 2022 BAFTAs. She truly is a queen.
