Fashion Flashback: Style with Elsa Klensch

Ok kiddies, we're not gonna lie, it's a rrreal slow news day on the fashion front. What does that mean? Obviously, we've been obsessively checking our Google Reader and catching up on all our blogs, but we've also been partaking in one of our favorite pastimes: getting lost in the world of YouTube. After watching a bunch of classic runway shows, we remembered a few of our friends once mentioning a television show they used to watch called Style with Elsa Klensch. We typed that on in the search field and this gem (above) popped up and we just about died. First of all, this show was produced on CNN back in the day, and ran from 1980 to 2000, meaning that good ole' Elsa was working the fashion beat for twenty -- yes twenty -- years...long before Project Runway or Rachel Zoe, so she was a real trailblazer, this one. Secondly, her Wikipedia page says she's from Australian, but her accent is all over the place, no? But, seriously, this segment, featuring one of our absolute favorite designers, Thierry Mugler and his She-Devil collection, makes us wish we were old enough to have witnessed this spectacle in person. Today, the major models all just walk back and forth -- just short of zombie-like blankness, but these fierce mamas were werqing the runways in a may-jah way. This seriously makes us green with envy that we couldn't have been sitting front row for this extravaganza. Runway shows, and the clothing itself, was just so much more extreme and out-there. The posing, not just at the end of the runway but all up and down that catwalk, is utterly brilliant -- it makes our toes curl!

Anyways, we hope you enjoy, and if you want to take Lady Elsa on a spin around the information highway, be our guest, she's got plenty of other videos up her sleeve.
