Maren Morris has taken Brittany Kerr Aldean and Tucker Carlson's hateful words and turned it into over $100,000 for trans causes.
The country superstar released a new shirt late last week using the moniker that hate- and fear-monger Tucker Carlson gave her after she called out the wife of a fellow country singer for her transphobia.
All of this started when Brittany Kerr Aldean, the wife of country star Jason Aldean, made an ignorant and cruel Instagram post showing off a makeup look which she captioned, "I'd really like to thank my parents for not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase. I love this girly life."
Singer Cassadee Pope was one of the first to speak out against Aldean, tweeting, "You'd think celebs with beauty brands would see the positives in including LGBTQ+ people in their messaging. But instead, here we are, hearing someone compare their 'tomboy phase' to someone wanting to transition."
Morris then replied to the tweet, saying, "It's so easy to, like, not be a scumbag human? Sell your clip-ins and zip it, Insurrection Barbie."
Things got heated enough that Tucker Carlson got wind of the feud, calling Grammy winner Morris "a lunatic" and "some kind of fake country music singer."
So, Morris replied.
"ATTN LUNATICS," Morris captioned a post on Instagram. "New shirt in the shop. All proceeds will be split between Trans Lifeline & the GLAAD Transgender Media Program."
The shirts are black with the phrase "Maren Morris Lunatic Country Music Person" and the phone number for a Peer Support & Crisis Hotline for trans youth. The shirt is a pre-order item, and will ship later in September. After just one weekend of sales, Morris updated her post saying "UPDATE: We're at over $100K raised."
That's not the only thing to have happened because of Brittany Aldean's transphobia. Her husband Jason also was dropped from his publicist firm The GreenRoom after 17 years of representation.
