Though trans people have been around since the beginning of human civilization, we are just now beginning to appreciate the crucial role they play in the LGBT community. Trans celebrities such as actress Laverne Cox and journalist Janet Mock have brought trans identity into the spotlight, while trans writers like Leslie Feinburg have shown the world that those who live their true gender identity are here and proud.
