It’s the middle of another week and we’re back with the Out Newsletter!
I had the opportunity to see the movie The People’s Joker this week, and I need everyone to see it!
The People’s Joker is a parody superhero comedy directed by and starring Vera Drew. The movie follows a comedian who moves to Gotham City to become a famous Joker. While there, she meets Mr. J, a trans man version of Jason Todd dressed like Jared Leto’s Joker, and she herself comes out as trans, going by the name Joker the Harlequin.
With the world being filled with terrible superhero movies, The People’s Joker is a refreshing take on the genre, mixing meme-type humor, many different styles of animation, and some of the best trans jokes I’ve ever heard into a hilarious, fast-paced film experience like no other.
The People’s Joker is currently playing in select theaters, and will move to more this Friday, April 12.
I’m also going to be talking with Vera Drew about the film, so be on the lookout for an interview coming soon!
Now, let’s check on the latest queer pop culture news.

This Week in Out History
Six years ago in 2018, Peppermint became the first trans woman to ever create a role on Broadway when she starred in the musical Head Over Heels. Head Over Heels, which features music by The Go-Gos, began its initial run in San Francisco on April 10, 2018 before moving to NYC’s Hudson Theater on June 23.
Inspirational Quote
“Being gay, being queer is not homogenous. There’s not one way of doing it… You can be a femme person with facial hair. There are no rules or regulations as to how you can express yourself.”
This quote comes from Tonatiuh, the new star of Kiss of the Spider Woman. The quote came from an interview about their character Marcos on the show Vida.
