Cher Wrote a Note to Adam Rippon (Giving That a Standing O)
The icon honored the figure skater for Time 100.
Time released their highly-anticipated Time 100: The Most Influential People of 2018 roundup today. While the roster included an array of influential LGBTQ+ innovators including Lena Waithe and Christian Siriano, we couldn't help but call out the "Icons" section in particular, honoring the incredible Adam Rippon.

You may know how it works, but a notable public figure writes a letter to the honoree in the Time spread. For Rippon, it was Cher who penned his piece. A certified icon honoring a new icon? Yes. Yes. Yes.
In her note, Cher writes about the beauty that is Rippon, including this meaningful passage: "Adam is a skater who happens to be gay, and that represents something wonderful to young people. When I was young, I had nobody who made me think, Oh, I could be like them. They represent me. Adam shows people that if you put blood, sweat and tears into what you're doing, you can achieve something that's special. You can be special. And I think that's very brave."

Brilliant. Whether it be his gorgeous free skate during the Olympics, his free spirit, the kiss, or his fight with Mike Pence, Rippon is a trailblazer and a force to be reckoned with--and that's something both Cher (and the world) recognize.
