"We fuck a lot," Alexander Skarsgard tells filmmaker Jonas Akerlund during a discussion about why Swedes are so cool.
That kind of blunt comment is enough to make anyone blush but it is all a part of the actor's rhetoric. In a conversation for Out's 2011 travel issue about Sweden Skarsgard and Akerlund don't hold back when it comes to sex and rock and roll.
"That's also why we're so liberal and so cool with our sexuality," Skarsgard says. "When you're bored, just have sex."
Have sex or play the drums. If there's one thing Sweden is known for — in addition to producing one of acting's hottest exports — is its music. Embedded in Swedish culture, music plays a large of men's lives. It's probably why Skarsgard himself got started in music videos, serving as Lady Gaga's paramour in "Paparazzi," which was directed by Akerlund.
Of course, Skarsgard is widley known for his role as Eric Northman on HBO's True Blood. While the show has had its creative ups and down, the one thing that has remained constant — especially since Skarsgard joined in season 2 — is the sex. The show has never been shy about putting the show's main protaganist, Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), in bed with the its many leading men, including Stephen Moyer, Skarsgard, and Joe Manganiello.
In its final season, fans are preparing to say goodbye to Skarsgard and the many fantasies — ahem, the gay sex scene between Northman and Jason Stackhouse — employeed by HBO. But if there's one thing we learned about Skarsgard, is that it won't be long before we see him in bed — on TV! — again.
