As they unwind at Ethan’s apartment, Jude and Sammy let their guard down and take things to the next level. The result? A hookup on their teammate’s couch. It’s an unexpected step forward for the pair of guarded characters as they navigate the growing pains of this newly formed S.W.A.T. team.
We spoke with S.W.A.T.: Exiles star Ronen Rubinstein about Jude and Sammy’s “naughty” hookup, Jude’s bond with Ethan, and what’s next for the guarded officer.
Let's talk about Jude and Bishop. What was your reaction when you found out they were going to hook up?
I found out there was going to be a, let's call it, a ship prior to shooting the season, and my initial thought was, "Oh my God, please let her be someone cool." And then, of course, when I got to meet Lucy, I was like, she couldn't be any more cool.
Just getting to explore that dynamic. They're doing it in a really beautiful way, where we're not giving people everything right away. It’s going to be a roller coaster of a relationship. The fact that they hooked up in Episode 3 in that environment is very naughty, to say the least. It's very complicated, and you're not supposed to do that. They both know that, but there was a passion they couldn’t resist. The scene is very important because it’s a chance for them to vent to each other about the realities of how intense and difficult this job is. I don’t know if they necessarily have gotten that from anyone in a while. Speaking for Jude, I don’t know who he can go to unload and vent to. Jude is very guarded so he saw that Sammy was being vulnerable with him and thinks he can be vulnerable with her. People are going to very interested in the journey that relationship goes into for the rest of the season and where it goes the next season.

We’re starting to get pieces of info about Jude. He shared that someone died while he was undercover and now we see his massive back tattoo. What can you say about how long we'll have to wait to learn more about his situation?
Oh, he’s hiding. He’s hiding a lot of secrets.
It’s two people hooking up and it’s sexy, but a big part of that scene was to uncover a big clue about who Jude is. If anyone has any knowledge about what that tattoo might mean, and some other things fans have caught on my torso. It’s a huge clue about where he’s from, what he has done, and then later on on the season we are very much going to uncover all of that.
We also see Jude take a pretty significant step forward with Ethan by accepting his offer to stay at his place. What does that mean to you in terms of Jude finally letting this team in?
That’s a very interesting, unusual dynamic that I’m so glad that we’re going into because, just like Sammy, Ethan is the only other person that has given Jude an olive branch and has been open with him, and has been willing to just be kind to him. Jude is craving that, whether he would admit it or not.
It gives Jude an opportunity to again open up with somebody else and I don’t know how much Jude gets that in his life, so the fact he has someone like Sammy and now Ethan, it’s probably jarring for him and probably uncomfortable in many ways.
