Power couple Ciara and Russell Wilson married this July at a beautiful castle in Liverpool with a private ceremony. However, after a recent interview with Mindy Weiss, the couple's wedding planner, we learned this wasn't the initial plan.
"They were first getting married in North Carolina, but they called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws," Weiss said to The Knot.
The law mentioned is HB 2, which forces transgender people to use the bathroom that corresponds to their assigned sex at birth. After gaining heavy amounts of negative press, the law pushed the couple to reconsider their marital plans.
"They were gonna go to Paris and it ended up being [Couture] Fashion Week," Weiss said. "And it was really difficult."
The couple finally settled on Liverpool and had their private ceremony with only 110 guests.
Ciara and Wilson weren't the only lovers deterred from activities in the state. Selena Gomez debated canceling her show before ultimately donating its proceeds to charity, and the NBA pulled the 2017 All Star game from the state over the same reason, moving it to Louisiana.
Whether it was the original plan or not, Ciara and Wilson's wedding looked beautiful.
