It wouldn't be Doll Invasion in Fire Island without Kim Petras!
For her first time ever in the Pines, the international pop superstar made a special appearance at the Pavilion to mingle with the dolls and sing along to her biggest hits. Throughout the night, Petras performed a couple of her new tracks from her latest album Detour and posed for photos with fans in the crowd.
The superstar joined the party as part of an ongoing collaboration with MISTR, following recent appearances at The Abbey in West Hollywood and Crown & Anchor in Provincetown. MISTR also served as one of the large sponsors that helped Petras release Detour as an independent artist.
"MISTR was a huge reason I was able to release this project. I wouldn't have been able to do it without them. I can't thank everyone enough who've made this happen. You saved your girl! I love how the music has been received. I'm on the right track, which is fucking awesome," Petras tells Out.
Despite achieving mainstream success and major career milestones, Petras remains grateful to return to her roots at LGBTQ+ venues. While massive hits like "Unholy (with Sam Smith)" and "Heart to Break" earned her critical acclaim, the unapologetic, sex-positive tracks on Slut Pop continue to resonate with OG fans.
"Gay clubs taught me everything I know. I care about sexual health and sexual education! I'm from Germany. There's tittles on TV all day! It's always been important to me. I hate censorship. I wish everyone could talk openly. Fuck whoever, whenever!"
While Petras has come a very long way since her early days performing in gay bars in Germany, she deeply relates to trans youth more than ever. Although anti-LGBTQ+ legislation continues to gain momentum, Petras hopes her queer peers can come together and form an essential community. Plus, the singer is even teasing more new music as she takes the reins on her career.
"I grew up in a small town, so I understand how scary it is. If you know who you are, you've gotta go for it. Life is too short! I'm feeling connected to my fans. I just want to be a better storyteller. To be loved is to be known. My next era and deluxe work has been sent in, so I don't need to manifest anything there. If people really love me, they're going to like it!"
