This is her moment!
Rebecca Black cemented herself as a force in pop culture when her debut song "Friday" reached viral status at a time where social media was a fairly new concept. Since then, the pop singer has embraced her queer identity and experimented with exciting sounds as she finds her voice as an artist.
Now, the star is releasing her empowering sophomore album Age of the Exhibitionist that features a wide range of genres, unapologetic queerness, and even men making out in the record's accompanying music videos.
"I want every piece of everything to really mean something, especially as an independent artist. It is all funded by me! It is a lot of favors and funded out of a lot of love for the craft, not just for me, but everybody around it. It's important that I made the most of it," Black tells Out.
Since coming out in 2020, Black has spoken openly about her sexuality, relationships, and the chosen family that helps her navigate the music industry.
"So much of what I do is made by gay people for gay people. Every decision that gets made! It's made by people who love this industry and love what we do. I want people to walk into a show and feel like I have opened the doors for them. That is why I do what I do. I would never want somebody to walk in and feel out of place."
Black is not only surrounding herself with queer people in her personal and professional endeavors, but she wants the crowds on her upcoming North American tour titled Exhibitionism on Tour - Rebecca Black as: Miss Delicious.
"I think that there's the pushback that every artist who makes unapologetically queer stuff gets pushback that they're being pigeonholed. No! You need color to create your own. That's what this album means to me. I hope people enjoy it. I hope they sweat, I hope they fuck, I hope they do everything they need to do. There really is a song for everything on this record."
