Kamala Harris made a surprise visit to The Abbey.

The former vice president walked through the West Hollywood LGBTQ+ establishment Saturday evening around 6:30 p.m. Accompanied by her husband Doug Emhoff and a security team, Harris did not deliver any formal remarks but shook hands and wished "Happy Pride" to surprised diners.

Misty Violet, a drag performer who hosted the bar and restaurant's popular weekend brunch earlier in the day, introduced Harris and Emhoff, who live in Los Angeles, as they circulated through the crowd.

"Thanks for being at The Abbey with us, thanks for celebrating Pride with us," Violet said on a microphone.

The Abbey was decked in rainbow flags for Pride Month. WeHo Pride had taken place the weekend prior, and LA Pride — a separate Pride celebration in the City of Angels — was in full swing when Harris made her visit. She stayed about 15 minutes before departing.

The Abbey is no stranger to headline-making appearances from public figures. Madonna dropped by in April to promote her upcoming album, Confessions on a Dance Floor: Part II. The Abbey also recently threw a star-studded 35th anniversary party, which drew divas like Christina Aguilera and Nicole Scherzinger.

Just ahead of Harris's visit, beefed-up security on Saturday sparked speculation among Abbey patrons of a celebrity appearance. Some thought it might be Ariana Grande, who is performing stops of her Eternal Sunshine Tour in Los Angeles this weekend.

Harris previously stopped by The Abbey in 2019 when she was a U.S. senator and presidential candidate. While serving as vice president, she was the Democratic presidential nominee in 2024 against Donald Trump. Though she has not announced whether she will run for the Oval Office again, a new poll shows her as the clear Democratic frontrunner in the 2028 race.
