The Dinah has finally announced its main headliner for the famous sapphic music festival weekend in Palm Springs and it’s the second coming of Lesbian Jesus. In an exclusive announcement to Them, organizers confirmed Hayley Kiyoko will headline at this year's Dinah.
“We are so thrilled to welcome Hayley Kiyoko to The Dinah,” said The Dinah’s co-owners Bella Barkow and Rose Garcia wrote in a press release. “Hayley performing at the festival has been a dream of ours and we’ve long admired her passion and artistry.”
Originally established in 1991, The Dinah has been hosted in the California desert oasis of Palm Springs as a queer women-focused weekend for decades. It cemented itself as one of the best known sapphic events in the zeitgeist after being prominently featured in an episode of season one of Showtime series The L Word. This year, The Advocate reported that Barkow and Garcia acquired the event from founder and former owner Mariah Hanson through their company BellRose Productions. The pair said they only want to expand the festival’s inclusivity, as the Dinah has evolved over the decades to be more trans-inclusive and broadly inclusive of all LGBTQ+ sapphics.
Kiyoko herself is experiencing multiple career highs this year. She’ll be taking center stage at the festival after a busy summer spent promoting her coming of age sapphic film Girls Like Girls, which was inspired by her viral 2015 single and music video.
“This moment has been a long time coming!” said Hayley Kiyoko. “The Dinah has always been such a special place for our community, and I can't think of a better way to keep the 'Girls Like Girls' celebration going this year. See you all in Palm Springs!”
The Dinah is slated to take place September 30 through October 4 this fall. Alongside Kiyoko, Them previously reported that the festival's musical line-up will include Grammy nominated rapper Da Brat, rock band The Aces, and R&B artist Sasha Keable.
