Alyssa Edwards Claps Back at Bill Trying to Ban Kids From Drag Shows

“Mama, this is garbage,” as Alyssa would say.

Less tongue popping, more popping off.

As a proud Texas queen, RuPaul's Drag Race superstar Alyssa Edwards has taken to social media to react to a porposed bill that aims to "ban drag shows in the presence of minors in Texas."

This very problematic legislation proposal comes from Republican politician Bryan Slaton and calls drag performers "perverted adults [who] are obsessed with sexualizing young children."

Edwards tweeted out her reaction to this bill proposal in the state of Texas:

"My thoughts:

1) Our God is a God of Love.

2) Parents are a child's 1st & most important teacher/role model.

3) Drag is an art form, which is subjective.

4) You, sir, have tweeted more about #drag than the loss at #Uvalde. Is this truly about children or politics? #Priorities"

Filed in the Texas House of Representatives by Slaton, the bill reads:

"Following several news stories and videos over the weekend in which underage Texas children were subjected to inappropriate sexual content by adults, State Representative Bryan Slaton announced he plans to file legislation protecting kids from drag shows and other inappropriate displays as soon as the next legislative session begins."

Among other things, Slaton has advocated for the criminalization of abortion in 2021 in a bill that didn't even make exceptions for cases of rape or incest. The politician is currently also working on legislation that would label gender reassignment procedures on minors as "child abuse."
