Writer Greg Cope White turned his experiences as a closeted gay man in Marine Corps boot camp into a memoir, The Pink Marine, which has now been adapted into Netflixās Boots, starring Miles Heizer.
āI create work that mixes humor, heart, and honesty,ā says White, teasing that heās working on another book. Itās āsurrealā that such a personal āstory I wrote alone at my deskā has become a Netflix show. White says, that gives āpeople who may never have seen themselves represented a chance to feel seen.ā
White didnāt know how to be a Marine (or an author) and still did both anyway ā crediting his best friend and partner of 17 years (āthe best man on Earth; fight meā) and Norman Learās mentorship (Boots was the legendary producerās final TV project) for making it possible.
Whiteās heard that āthis world wasnāt made for youā plenty of times but also recalls āthe feeling of marching into that world anyway, determined to take my place.ā Ultimately, heās committed to creating even more art āthat entertains and reminds people life is ridiculous but survivable.ā @eatgregeat
