Sophia Bush is using her platform to make a difference.
While fans may know and love her for her breakthrough and notable roles on hit TV shows such as One Tree Hill and Chicago P.D., Bush is focusing her time and energy beyond the screen by giving back to the LGBTQ+ community.
The star has just released her vulnerable new memoir titled And I Will Tell You Mine: Notes from a Life in Progress and it's already receiving rave reviews from critics and audiences. By cracking the top spot on The New York Times Best Sellers list, Bush is giving fans her most authentic story by going all the way back to her childhood and telling unheard stories on her fascinating life.
In fact, she even details her experience coming to terms with her sexuality, falling in love, and why she's proudly embraced her queerness despite all of the obstacles and judgements she's faced in the entertainment industry.
"It's really been special to go on that journey for myself and all the girls I used to be. I didn't really get to come out, but you can't really go back. At the end of the day, so many people were worried. I was like, 'Watch how proud I'll be! I'm going to be out!' Even if it goes this way for you, it's not going to ruin your life. It's going to give you every ounce of freedom and joy you ever wanted," Bush tells Out.
As a member on the Board of Directors for the Human Rights Campaign (the largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization in the U.S.), Bush wants her memoir and activism to give a voice to queer youth who are facing systemic discrimination and anti-LGBTQ+ legislation.
"I don't think you survive in this industry if you don't make lemonade out of lemons. The most beautiful thing for me is our community being about holding more people and fighting the good fight with joy at the center. Joy is the fuel. We're pushing back against an administration that wants to erase our community, but we're doing it with joy."
Bush's cup is overflowing with love with her wife Ashlyn Harris. After revealing that the two secretly tied the knot in upstate New York in the summer of 2025, the actress admits that she starts her day filled with love with Harris by her side.
"She's the best person I know. There's no kinder, funnier, more welcoming, more thoughtful, more creative person that I know. It's such a joy to just wake up in the morning and be so happy to see someone. I'm so excited to see her face. I feel really proud to be able to show a love like that. Fighting for your joy is worth it and you deserve it. Every bit of your story is what makes you who you are."
