Happy Monday, Out readers!
Are you a fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show? The cult classic turns 50 this year, and for many queer people, it remains an eye-opening film and experience! I know that when I was in college, Rocky Horror screenings were some of the first places I went and felt like I could let out the real me.
I'm far from the only one. In a new documentary, RuPaul's Drag Race star Trixie Mattel reveals how the movie helped her to find her identity and name. Mattel had previously revealed that when she was young, her abusive stepfather would call her "Trixie" when she was "acting too feminine or gay or being emotional."
Then, when she was older, she joined a cast for performances of the movie, and would dress in drag and go by the name Trixie.
"It went from like the worst thing I could think of to a name given to me by my first chosen family," she says. "I feel like my drag name got picked for me by Rocky."
Mattel tells her story in the new documentary, Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror, directed by Linus O'Brien, the son of Rocky Horror creator Richard O'Brien.

The Last of Us star is standing up for free speech and Jimmy Kimmel on social media! Pascal recently posted on Instagram that he is standing with Kimmel after the late-night host was suspended indefinitely following comments he made about Charlie Kirk's murder. Not only that, but when he started getting hate for it, Pascal commented on his own post saying, "Yay Gay!"
