Victoria Cruz, a Stonewall hero and pioneering trans activist, has died at 79. From standing at the front lines of LGBTQ+ history during the Stonewall uprising to spending nearly two decades helping survivors of anti-LGBTQ+ violence, Cruz dedicated her life to protecting and uplifting her community.
Her impact reached generations of trans New Yorkers and queer people around the world. Today, we remember her life, her activism, and the lasting legacy she leaves behind.
