A former student of the University of Miami has created a petition calling on school leadership to treat transgender students with respect and equality.
Ryan Aquilina's petition on Change.org names UM president Julio Frenk, general sounsel Aileen Ugalde, executive director of housing and residential life James Smart, and Title IX coordinator Roy Hinds.
"At the University of Miami, diversity isn't just something we value; it's the very fabric of what it means to be Miami Hurricane," Aquilina wrote.
He's calling on administrators to clarify school policy regarding housing, restrooms, and changing rooms.
"I was horrified when I learned that the University of Miami's policies segregated and isolated transgender students, even preventing them from living in entire buildings simply because they were trans," said Aquilina.
