Any day now, the United States Supreme Court will announce its decision in Obergefell v. Hodges, the case LGBT activists are expecting will see marriage equality become the law of the land across the country.
On the face of things, the story of same-sex marriage would seem to have begun in 2004, when Massachusetts became the first state to grant marriage licenses to same-sex couples. But the history of marriage equality actually goes back much further, to the 1970s, when a Minnesota couple first set the wheels in motion.
