6 Songs by LGBTQ+ Artists Released on Valentine’s Day 2020
Time to add to the playlist.
Who needed some new music for their playlist? Maybe a last minute addition f or whatever you've got going on tonight? Well, if were hoping to add in some tracks created by queer and trans talent specificalliy, boy have we got a list for you!
Valentine's Day seems like a big day for music. Though we already knew Sam Smith was coming with a new track -- they had previously announced today's single, opened a wig shop, and promised to put their new album on presale -- there's quite a number of other artists. VINCNT, Peppermint, Jake Spears, Solomon, and more have released projects. Read on to see what might match up with your tastes.
“To Die For” by Sam Smith
If you're wanting to get all in your feelings, Sam Smith is right here. Written for all the lonely hearts out there, "To Die For" is the title track off of Smith's upcoming album. In case you were wondering, he opened a wig shop as a bit of promo for the project because he appears as a mannequin head in a wig shop window for the entire of the music video.
"What You're Looking For" by Peppermint
Peppermint is an all around artist. Yes, she might have made her big national break on RuPaul's Drag Race, but she had been proviing herself as a performer much before then in the New York City scene. Now she's doing her thing on Broadway and releasing her own original music. The latest track: "What You're Looking For," released just in time for the special day.
\u201cMAJOR news! As you may have heard, my BRAND NEW album (ft. my new single 'What You're Looking For' is out VALENTINES DAY, 2/14! I'll be doing a LIVE LISTENING PARTY via Instagram live so don't miss out! Come feel the love and the beat! \n\nPre-Save link: https://t.co/p6EmmJVxzi\u201d— Miss Peppermint. The Feeling by VINCINT
While other artists released tracks, VINCINT released his EP The Feeling. You want to talk about a singer?! My god.
The six-track project is full of plenty of emotion, and delivers outsized vocals but keeps with a pop sentiment. "I hope that it moves you," the artist wrote to Twitter of the project. "I hope you sing and dance your hearts out." We will, we will.
“Meltdown” by Jake Shears
If you've been feeling funk -- quite a number of musicians have been pumping it out recently -- former Scissor Sisters front man, Jake Shears has a little something for you. Written on the "hottest day of the summer" in New York City, "Meltdown," is the perfect little earworm for the dance floor. It's certainly a departure from what we know of the performer.
“Llama A Tu Novio” by Solomon
In his last few releases, Solomon has gone back to his roots, dropping music exclusively in Spanish. "Llama A Tu Novio," which means "Call Your Boyfriend," is no different. Featuring MANCANDY, a reggatonero who is also a noted fashion designer, the track was written with Robyn's "Call Your Girlfriend" in mind -- an eternal bop. For the video treatment, the artists are giving telanovela vibes, opening credits and all.
And very much like Trinity the Tuck: I can't understand anything they are saying but honey I am living.
"I'm Just Wild About Harry" by Morgxn
If you've been looking forward to The Thing About Harry, you've probably watched the trailer a few times. And if you have, you've no doubt heard a familiar song, being sung by maybe a less familiar voice. Welcome, Morgxn.
For the new Freeform movie, Morgxn was asked to cover Judy Garland's iconic "I'm Just Wild About Harry," and does so beautifully. "I wish I had a movie like this when I was a kid," the performer wrote to Instagram. "It's a real romantic comedy. That isn'nt about trauma (of which there's always so much to unpack). It's about love. As someone who spent a lifetime learning to love myself and is still learning ... this is a huge honor. And a Judy Garlandn song? Who knew."
