Happy Friday, Out readers!
It's no secret we here at Out love our Broadway divas!
What we don't love is when our Broadway divas fight!
Performing legend Patti LuPone has been igniting controversy left and right recently for comments she's making about fellow Broadway performers like Audra McDonald and Kecia Lewis.
Much of the trouble started when LuPone was performing in the stage play The Roommate, which shared a wall with the musical Hell's Kitchen. After LuPone called the musical "too loud," Hell's Kitchen star Kecia Lewis called the comments "offensive," "rude," and "racially microaggressive."
LuPone was asked about how Audra McDonald used supportive emojis in reaction to a post about LuPone's Hell's Kitchen controversy, and responded, "That's typical of Audra. She's not a friend."
Now, in a new interview with Gayle King for CBS Mornings, McDonald has reacted.
"I mean, I don't… If there's a rift between us, it's… I don't know what it is. That's something that you'd have to ask Patti about, you know? I haven't seen her in about 11 years, just because we've been busy – just with life and stuff."
Hopefully, this can squash the beef! We want to see our Broadway divas singing and inspiring us, not fighting!
