Netflix announced the third season of Ryan Murphy's popular anthology series, Monsters, and revealed that the subject will be Ed Gein. This comes after two successful seasons – the first centered on Jeffrey Dahmer and the second on the Menendez Brothers. Now, Murphy and his creative partner Ian Brennan are focusing on one of the most notorious serial killers of all time. So much so that his murders went on to inspire three classic movies: The Silence of the Lambs, Psycho, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

Premiering October3, the story is set to follow the serial killer known as "Butcher of Plainfield" or the "Plainfield Ghoul.” Gein grew up in rural Wisconsin in the 1950s and lived on a poorly-managed farm that became the scene for some of his most gruesome murders. Here's more from the show's official logline: "Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades. From Psycho to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein’s macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn’t just influence a genre — he became the blueprint for modern horror.”

The show's central figure will be portrayed by Charlie Hunnam, who was announced to be at the helm of the show back in September. He's known for his roles in Sons of Anarchy, Pacific Rim, and Crimson Peak—but one of his earliest roles was in the original UK version of Queer As Folk back in 1999. But he's not the only notable actor working this season, Murphy's got a few tricks up his sleeve.

In addition to the British heartthrob, the cast includes The White Lotus' Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf from Lady Bird, Love, Simon's Joey Pollari, Phantom Thread star Lesley Manville, and Suzanna Son from Fear Street: Prom Queen.
