Vasilis Loizides Spring '18
NYFW breakout Vasilis Loizides is adding a bit of fantasy and femininity to menswear, pulling spring '18 inspiration from retro sci-fi thrillers like Godzilla and Alien. "In many of these old monster movies, the creature possessed both a violent potential and a vulnerable reality," the rising New York designer told OUT, reflecting this complex balance (oft found in men) through bold, abrasive silhouettes and soft materials.

Prints of the iconic horror protagonists are featured throughout Loizides' collection on jackets, dresses and pullovers--classic staples adorned with flouncy ruffles and trimmed with white pearls. "I was immediately drawn to vintage horror movie posters, pearls and rich, decorative fabrics," he said, with an end result that twists traditional masculinity and sees Loizides exploring gender and sexuality through fashion.
