Willy Chavarria Spring ’17
For the newest drop of Willy Chavarria's spring '17 collection, the queer New York-based designer cites four things that inspired his relaxed, oversized styles: The Puerto Rican community in '70s Bronx, the Brown Power Movement, '80s Cholos and Ray Petri, who created the iconic fashion house, Buffalo.
The Chicano designer's collection is made exclusively using fine Peruvian cottons and features drop shoulder jackets, pleated drawstring trousers and pima cotton knit tops and bottoms. Some pieces are stamped with empowering statements, like "Stay Black" and "Brown Power."

The lookbook includes some of Chavarria's favorite street cast models. "Using real people as opposed to professional models is the best way for our brand to express its range of character," Chavarria said. "I'm sick of what we have considered to be 'beautiful' looking people. I like to use people who show the personality of our work."
