And here we thought penguins were the gays of the avian world. Two male vultures made headlines this week when their German zookeepers decided to break the couple up after the birds spent recent months building a nest together.
The reason: one of the males is being shipped to a Czech zoo to mate with...a lady vulture. Can you imagine?! Neither could some gay activist groups that are protesting the decision.
"They weren't happy as a gay couple anyway -- the other vultures picked on them and stole their nest materials," said Dirk Wewers, curator at the Czech zoo in Muenster, which is apparently so desperate for baby vultures. What, did they think Birds of a feather flock together was just a saying?
