You know you've made it as a pop star in America when you start frequenting the late night circuit. This week Troye Sivan made his first appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert to talk about his new album, his role in the upcoming film on conversion therapy, Boy Erased, and to perform a sampling of songs from Bloom.

When asked about Boy Erased, Sivan dipped into his own coming out experience to emphasize how important a family's reaction is when their children come out. "The thing that was most hurtful about it... I remember being so relived - I'm gay by the way - when I came out to myself, because I was like, 'it's not something I can change. It's not something I have to fight anymore. It's just something I have to accept,'" he said. "And so that was the big moment for me, and the second that these kids or sometimes adults arrived at these camps, that was taken away from them and they were told immediately, 'no, you weren't born like this, this is a God-shaped hole that you're trying to fill with these homosexual tendencies.' Imagining being 15 again when I was at my most vulnerable, and having that put back on me and being set up with that impossible task of trying to change this thing that ultimately is unchangeable - it's just one of the most damaging things I can imagine."
Sivan also told Colbert that the first time his "pop star" status really hit him was when he was asked, after trying to procure free tickets, to perform on stage with Taylor Swift. Watch the interview below, and see Sivan perform "Plum" and "Animal" from Bloom.
