An intimate video of Jeff Molina with another man leaked online on Thursday, March 16, prompting the athlete to come out as bisexual on social media.
Molina is best known as a fighter in the flyweight division within the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) league. His professional mixed martial arts track record includes 11 wins and two losses overall.
Following the video leak, Molina shared a lengthy coming-out statement that reads:
āWelp... this f*cking sucks. TLDR: Iām bi. Not the way I wanted to do this, but the chance to do it when I was ready was taken from me. Iāve tried to keep my dating life private from social media. Iāve dated girls my whole life and suppressed feelings I had throughout high school being on the wrestling team, throughout college pursuing MMA, and even after making part of the dream happen and getting into the UFC.ā
He continued:
āIām a pretty masculine dude and that bro-y banter and [suspect] sense of humor has always been how I am. The thought of my buddies, teammates, and [people] I look up to looking at me different, let alone treating me different, for something I can't control was something I couldnāt fathom. In a sport like this where a majority of the fans being the homophobic c*cksuckers they are, I didnāt see myself doing this during this part of my career. I wanted to be known for my skills and what Iāve dedicated the last 11 years of my life to not and not the ābi UFC fighterā that Iām sure would just be translated to āgay UFC fighter.āā
āTo the awful disturbed person that decided to post this ishh, I hope it was worth it,ā Molina concluded. āAt the end of the day I know my character, morals, and who I am as a person. As much as Iām getting hated/shitted on, Iām getting an equal amount of support & it means a f*ck ton.ā
Molina is the first male athlete in the UFC to come out as LGBTQ+. Though this didnāt exactly happen the way he wanted, many UFC fans and queer people are sending him love and support at this time.
