Mean Girls

The stage musical adaptation of Tina Fey's smash-hit film Mean Girls will debut in the nation's capitol on Halloween, Broadway.com reports.

Fey herself is adapting the screenplay to the stage, and her husband, the composer Jeff Richmond, will write the score. Nell Benjamin is handling lyrics, and is certainly a great choice for the job, having previously held the same position for the stage adaptation of the wildly successful Legally Blonde. The director of The Book of Mormon, Casey Nicholaw, is set to helm the project, and Lorne Michaels, the comedy titan responsible for exeutive producing the film, will again serve as a producer for the new musical.

The play is set to run through December 3 at the National Theater before a "planned run on Broadway." Casting and further creative team hires are yet to be announced. Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams made famous the roles of Cady Heron and Regina George in the 2004 film, which remains a cult favorite in the pop culture zeitgeist.
