Gay marriage can't be stopped, and Adam Rippon is the latest to prove it.
The Olympian got married to his boyfriend of several years, Jussi-Pekka "JP" Kajaala, in a small and private ceremony on New Year's Eve, and we couldn't be happier for the couple.
"Surprise! We are Married!" Rippon posted on social media earlier today. "One afternoon JP and I looked at each other and said the very classic *romantic* phrase of 'let's just go do it now.' So we did. It was just the three of us and it was perfect. 12/31/21."
The third person he mentioned being present for the wedding was the couple's dog, Tony, with 12/31/21 presumably being the date they got married.
Last year, the duo were busy planning their wedding. In August, Rippon told People that they were thinking of doing something lowkey. "City Hall wedding, right? A wedding is really expensive," Rippon said. "Wouldn't you rather just buy a couch? That's what I'm thinking."
He continued, saying he already celebrated every day. "Do I need a wedding if I make every day about me? Probably not," he said. "I probably need a day off. So courthouse: logical, cheap. Me: logical and cheap."
It looks like he wasn't exaggerating about wanting a small ceremony.
The couple also moved in together late last year, after spending most of their relationship traveling back and forth between Los Angeles, where the couple currently lives, and Kajaala's home country of Finland.
Rippon and Kajaala first met on Tinder back in 2018, and in early 2021, they proposed to each other while Rippon was visiting Finland. "JP and I didn't get to see each other for almost all of 2020 because of the pandemic," Rippon wrote on Instagram at the time. "When there was finally a chance for me to go and see him in Finland, I jumped at it. I was there for a little over two months."
Congratulations to the happy couple! Love wins!
