As the United States mends relations with Cuba, the Caribbean island nation is poised to become one of the summer's hottest vacation destinations.

Mimi Imfurst of RuPaul's Drag Racerecently celebrated New Year's in Cuba. According to Al Ferguson of ALandCHUCK.travel, she is the first American drag queen to perform in Cuba. She met with the Cuban government's LGBT organization, El Proyecto Divino to organize the event.

She was provided with eight dancers and a short 90-minute rehearsal to put the performance together. The language barrier posed an issue as the dancers did not speak English and she does not speak Spanish. A translator was on hand to help with the performance of Madonna's "Express Yourself" which the dancers had never heard before the gig.

Mimi expressed her excitement to perform in Cuba:

"The moment was overwhelming, the idea that we can come together to create a piece of art... to 'express ourselves' and encourage others to think about the possibilities that lay before us when we try to bridge the divides that stand between us. My trip to Cuba was life changing. I got to experience the rich history and culture of Cuba by living in their houses and spending the week disconnecting from the outside world. More importantly, the Cuban people are incredible. They have fought through a strict embargo and have thrived with nothing more than the tenacity of the human spirit. That is inspiring for us all and at the end of the day, that is what will always win."

This year, Mimi will produce the first Drag Stars at Sea from ALandCHUCK.travel, which will feature over 20 RuPaul's Drag Queens as well as other international drag stars. The cruise will conclude with a massive drag party in Havana.
