His outfit honors a classic look from the long-running sci-fi drama. Gatwa is the first Black Doctor in the series - and presumably the first gay one as well.
Gatwa will play the 15th incarnation of the Doctor, replacing Jodie Whittaker. In October's finale, Whittaker regenerated into David Tennant, a previous Doctor. Fans believe he'll be the Doctor again for next year's anniversary special, then the Doctor will regenerate again as Gatwa.
