10 Pics of Josh Cavallo That'll Make You Want to Watch Soccer
Soccer suddenly looks great!
In October 2021, Australian athlete Josh Cavallo became the first current top-flight soccer player to come out as gay. At the time, he shared a sweet video encouraging other LGBTQ+ people to be themselves and embrace who they are.
Cavallo was born in November 1999 in Bentleigh East, Victoria, Australia. Throughout his career in soccer, he played as a left-back and central midfielder. In his first active years, Cavallo played for teams like Melbourne Victory and Melbourne City. His senior career in soccer then included placements on teams such as Western United and Adelaide United. In 2018, Cavallo played for the national Australia U20 team.
Unfortunately, Cavallo's career in soccer wasn't exactly an easy journey. The player received multiple death threats over a period of time and experienced fans chanting homophobic remarks at him during games as well. Some of these occurrences resulted in fines and soccer fans being removed from stadiums, but they don't change the hardships that Cavallo has had to experience in his career.
Through it all, though, Cavallo has been a constant beacon of light and positivity - always encouraging others to see soccer as a sport that is for everyone. On social media, Cavallo is also nothing but positive and uplifting with his posts.
